Gabriele Peters studied Mathematics with minor subject Psychology at the
Ruhr-Universität Bochum. For her research on the perception of 3D-objects
at the Institut für Neuroinformatik in Bochum she received her doctoral degree
(Dr. rer. nat.) from the Faculty of Technology of the Bielefeld University.
As Research Assistant she worked on computer vision, computer graphics,
intelligent systems, and machine learning for vision applications at the
Department of Graphical Systems,
Faculty of Computer Science, of the Technische Universität Dortmund.
Since 2005 she directs the DFG-project
"Dynamisches
Lernen zur geometrischen und graphischen Objekterfassung", extended until 2010.
The Rudolf Chaudoire-Award of the Technische
Universität Dortmund allowed her two stays as a Guest Professor
in the Computational
Vision Laboratory at the California Intitute of Technology, where she took part in
the development of new techniques for the generation of photo panoramas. Since 2007 she is
Professor for the research field Visual Computing at the University of Applied Sciences
and Arts in Dortmund.
She is an elected member of the Presidency of the German Association for Computer Science
(GI) and a member of the JOY-jury
(Junior Of The
Year), an initiative of the City of Dortmund economy promotion.
Since more than 10 years she is activ as an artistic photographer, as well, with national and
international exhibitions.
